Senior Photos: Curtis High School: Megan Class of 2019

I met Megan’s mom when in grad school, oooh, 12 years ago. Megan was in kindergarten. So I was so thrown off when her mom called me to do senior photos. It just didn’t seem possible that she could already be a senior in high school. This is just one of many moments I have had this summer that have reminded me how quickly kids grow up to become adults. When I was a kid I felt like those first twenty years were an eternity. But the past 14 have flown by, especially when our own kids came into the picture. It seems as those kindergarten to high school graduation should be a life time, but I guess not.

The Allen Family: Tacoma Family Photographer

I met with the Allen Family back in July. That’s how crazy life has been, I’m just getting around to blogging their photos. This was such a fun session, as not only were the kids relaxed, but were themselves. I got to capture their personalities because there wasn’t any pressure to be perfect for the camera. My hope is that all my kid (and adult) clients don’t feel pressure to look or feel a certain way. I really just want to capture who they are and not who they think they are supposed to be.

The Puyallup Fair 2018: Tacoma Family Photographer

Going to the fair on opening night with cousins has been a tradition for my kids since they were born. They run around the fair as if they own it. Each year we end up staying later and later. This year we made it to the fireworks at 10pm. We also ventured outside of the kiddie section and it dawned on me that there will come a day when they will want to abandon us, and then we will be left to do all the things we did at the fair pre-kids. I’m holding onto these days.

The Anderson Family: Port Orchard Family Photographer

As I continue to grow in shooting family films, I am learning how to make space for stills as well. It’s like an added bonus to purchasing a family film. You get memories of sound and motion forever for your screen, but photos to adorn your walls and mantel.

I have know Andrea since we were little girls. Spending time with her whole family was such a treat. Her daughter was so much like she was as a kid, warm, friendly and creative. They were all sweet and the best kind of introverts. Being an introvert with loud, busy boys I was ready to take a retreat with their family.

As you watch the film, pay attention to the power of sound and motion and the emotion it evokes, compared to a still photograph. It’s something so magical.

The Van Jones Family: North Bend Family Photographer

Family Film has become the joy of my summer, it’s what I want to keep doing. I’ll stay up late, I work in the in between to do it. Not just because I love the creative piece, but I love being able to show families the magic in what is an exhausting time of life.

I’ve know Ashley and Brady since we were just babies in college. And capturing the summer life and rhythm of their family was pure joy.
