The Hogue Family: Tacoma Family Photographer

The Hogue family signed up for one of my mini-sessions at Curran Orchard. Of course, it rained. Most families rescheduled but they took a chance to see if it would clear up. And it did! It was well worth the risk. The light was perfect. We go sun peeks along with a little overcast (which I love). Oliver and Cleo were so sweet and fun to work with. Oliver had all sorts of suggestions as to where we should take pictures. I was happy to oblige since my boys avoid the camera like the plague. It was a great afternoon!

    Baby Beckett: Seattle Newborn Photographer

I love it when I get to do photos for family of previous clients. Back in March I did newborn photos for Jeff’s brother, Greg and Katie and their daughter Kari. A couple of weeks ago I did photos for Jeff, Michelle and Baby Beckett. Having two boys of my own baby boys hold a special place in my heart. Michelle and Jeff are such loving parents, Beckett is a lucky guy. Thanks for inviting me into your home Garrisons!

Magic Light: Summer Isn’t Over Yet

Last night we spent the evening at my aunt and uncle’s house. Even though there was a slight chill in the air it still felt like summer. Between the kids hunting for shells, eating watermelon and rolling around in the grass. For all of you holding on to summer, it seems to be holding on to us too.

I went through a long period where I wasn’t taking many photos outside of my work. But half way through the summer and the last couple of weeks I felt the need to keep my creative blood pumping. So I’ve brought my camera alond with me a bit more. And last night I found magic light. The sun was gorgeous on the water. It was so fun to capture the different ways the light appeared last night. It was the same sun, but the light showed itself so different depending on where I took the photo. It reminded me that we all have our own light to share, but we all share it differentlly. It doesn’t mean one is better than the other. It just means we all have something good inside of us to share, we just might show it different than someone else. Don’t be afraid to share your beautiful light. Summer isn’t over yet.

Ode to Summer: Tacoma Family Photographer

Yesterday felt like the last day of summer. Yes, of course, we have a little less than twenty days left. But my boys spent the entire day yesterday on the beach under the sun. Today we stayed home, there were clouds in the sky and my feet were cold as they walked across our kitchen floor. This is my second year that I will not be heading back to teach tomorrow, and it still feels a little funny.

I’m also feeling somewhat guilty as summer comes to a close. Between a growing belly, potty training two boys, and still trying to find my footing in what can feel lonely at times as a stay at home mom and photographer, I have done nothing but wish the summer away.

But as I look back at the photos I took from this summer I realize that we still managed to make memories. My boys became little fish after four weeks of swimming lessons, they made messes of the backyard, and had so much cousin time. So as hard as this summer was chasing around two boys in this pregnant body of mine I’m thankful for the things they will remember.

          Elizabeth: Tacoma Portrait Photographer

This is my favorite session of the summer. I’m not really sure why. Maybe because it was in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, ID. Or maybe because it was during gorgeous golden hour. Or there’s a good chance it was because it was with my niece, Elizabeth, the girl who made me an auntie. We were celebrating her 14th birthday.

It’s crazy how quick the magic happened. We did these the last night of my family’s vacation on Lake Coeur d’Alene. We only spent about 20 minutes taking photos. She had fresh lake hair, and didn’t do anything fancy to prepare. And she was herself which is what makes the photos the most beautiful.
