Capture Your Christmas: Family Documentary Sessions

Christmas is my favorite time of year…I mean along with fall, summer and spring when the flowers are in bloom. But Christmas has something special all on it’s own. Christmas arrives in the middle of darkness. It arrives when it’s cold and dark, when the sun rarely shows it’s face. Christmas is my light in a dark time, it’s what I hang onto when the imperfections of life feel louder. And since having kids, Christmas has (yes, become more challenging) but also oh so magical. I get to experience Christmas through the eyes of a child again. The best Christmas gift I could ever get.

Photography has been a way for me to capture and preserve these magical moments with my children. These are some of my favorite photographs. These are photos of my kids playing with their ornaments just as I did as a kid, they are my baby’s eyes aglow from the twinkle lights, they are of them galavanting on their little legs across the tree farm, or just snuggled up next to the tree.

It would be my joy to create these lasting memories for you as well. This Christmas season I’m offering a limited number of Family Documentary Sessions. Don’t worry, it wouldn’t be added work to your busy Christmas season. No one has to dress up, wash their face or fit something else into their schedule. All you do is choose one of your family’s favorite Christmas traditions. I would join you with camera in hand to capture you and your family making memories. You can choose your event; tree farm, decorating, cookie making, ice skating…whatever is most important to you. You can also choose how long you want me hanging around from one hour to a half a day. Birth Photos that Bring to life the Epic Story that you will tell your children over and over again.

As someone who has given birth four separate times I understand the importance of deciding who is and isn't invited into such a sacred space. I understand the amount of energy each person in the birthing room can fill and how it can impact the mental and emotional energy of the person in labor. I take it very serious when I am entrusted to help tell the story of the arrival of a new member of a family into this world.

That is why my approach to birth photography may be different than other birth photographers. To me, it is not all about "doing what it takes" to get the shot. I prefer to be a fly on the wall, with a calm and quiet energy. I will always do my best to capture beautiful images that help tell your story. However, I never want to interfere or encroach on your space, your energy, as well as the birth workers, hard at work in the room. I pay close attention to what is needed and not needed from moment to moment. Sometimes that means I can step in for a photo, and other times I just need to step back and give you the space you need for the hard work of your labor process.

Every family I photograph is a very different story. Some stories. Some a long drawn out stories that capture your journey, others have been over in minutes. But each story I capture is unique to you and your family, as well as your needs. If you invite me in to capture your birth story, I want to make sure to get to know you to understand your personality and expectations of the me as I step into the birthing room.

I provide birth photography as well as videography services, depending upon your preferences. I am available to clients giving birth within 30 minutes of the City of Tacoma. I do hospital, births a birthing centers or home births. If you choose me as your birth photographer, we will set up a meeting to get to know each other, discuss your comfort levels of what you do and don't want captured in the photos, as well as create a plan for the day of your birth. Each birth is unique, some may emphasize the labor process, some have more focus on postpartum photos. It depends on the story of your journey.
